Despite significant attention and billions in investments from companies like Microsoft, Alphabet, Meta, and particularly OpenAI, generative AI's actual usage remains limited, according to a YouGov survey for the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism conducted in early 2024. Among the 18-24 age group, only 9% use ChatGPT daily, 18% weekly, 12% monthly, and 17% have used it once or twice, while 44% have never used it. 

This gap in usage widens with age: 84% of those over 55 have never used it, and heavy usage declines from 19% among 25-34-year-olds to 9% in the 45-54 age bracket.
