• Described as up to 100 times more powerful than GPT-4, Orion has been training with synthetic data generated from OpenAI’s “Strawberry” model, the o1 reasoning model introduced in September. CEO Sam Altman hinted at Orion’s debut with a cryptic social media post referencing the “winter constellations.”

• Company Dynamics: OpenAI’s strategic changes come amid its $6.6 billion funding transition to a for-profit model. Alongside internal restructuring, OpenAI faces high turnover, with key figures like CTO Mira Murati and VP Barret Zoph recently leaving.
